This site is run by Jane Chipp Art Limited ("I", "me", "my"), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17020799, registered office 5 Coltness Road, Plymouth, England, PL9 8HA. You can reach me at jane@janechipp.art.

I am the data controller for the personal information described here. This policy explains what I collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask me to do about it.

I have tried to write this plainly. If anything here is unclear, please email me and I will explain it properly.

1. What I collect, and when
​
You buy something from the shop - Name, email address, billing address, order contents, amount paid, and the record of any discount code used. Card details go straight to the payment provider; I never see or hold them.
​
You ask for the free sample of the e-book - First name (optional) and email address, and whether you ticked the box to also receive my letters.
​
You sign up for my emails - Email address, and first name if you give it.
​
You enrol on an online class - Name, email address, and your progress through the class, held in Teachable.
​
You book an in-person event or class - Name, email address, and any details the booking form asks for.
​
You create an account or become a member on the site - The account details you enter, and your order history.
​
You message me through the site's chat or contact form - Your name, email address, and whatever you write to me.
​
You leave a product review - Your name, the review you write, and the rating you give.
​
You simply visit the site - Pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and how you move around the site. See section 7 on cookies.
​
I do not buy email lists, and I do not collect information about you from anywhere other than you and the tools listed in section 4.

2. Why I use it, and my lawful basis
​
Taking payment, sending you the thing you bought, giving you access to a class, and dealing with any problem afterwards - Performance of a contract with you.
​
Sending you my letters, news of new work, classes and events - Your consent, or, where you have already bought something similar from me, the soft opt-in under the UK's e-privacy rules. Either way there is an unsubscribe link in every email and you can stop at any time.
​
Sending you the free sample you asked for, and the two short follow-up emails that go with it - Performance of the request you made, and my legitimate interest in completing the conversation you started.
​
Keeping records of sales for tax and accounting - Legal obligation.
​
Understanding which pages and emails people find useful, and improving them - Your consent for the analytics cookies that make this work. See section 7.
​
Advertising on Facebook and Instagram, including showing ads to people who have visited the site - Your consent for the tracking cookies that make this work. See section 7.
​
Preventing fraud and keeping the site secure - My legitimate interests, and legal obligation.
​
You are never required to give me your details in order to browse the site or read the blog. You only need to if you want to buy something, or want me to send you something.
​
3. Marketing emails
​
If you have given me your email address, I may send you my letters, news about new work, classes, events and things for sale.
​
Every email I send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off the list; I do not ask why. You can also just email me and I will do it for you.
​
If you asked only for the free sample and did not tick the box, you will receive the sample and two short follow-up emails that are part of that same exercise, and then nothing further unless you ask.
​
4. Who else handles your information
​
I use a number of established companies to run the business and the website. Each of them only handles your information in order to provide their service to me.
​
Running the shop and the site:
​
Wix.com Ltd - Hosts the website, runs the shop, checkout, bookings, members area, invoices and site chat. Ireland / Israel / USA.
​
Wix Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay, Clearpay - Process card and other payments. They handle your payment details directly; I only receive confirmation and the details needed for the order. UK / EU / USA.
​
Klaviyo, Inc. - Sends my emails, holds the mailing list, and records which emails are opened and clicked. USA.
​
Teachable, Inc. - Delivers the online classes and records your progress. USA.
​
Zapier, Inc. - Passes an enrolment from the shop to Teachable when you buy a class. USA.
​
Xero - Accounting records. UK / New Zealand.
​
Advertising, analytics and site tools:
​
Meta Platforms (Facebook, Instagram) - Advertising, the pixel described in section 7, and displaying my Instagram feed on the site. USA / EU.
​
Google - Tag Manager and site analytics. USA / EU.
​
Usercentrics GmbH - Runs the cookie banner and records the consent choice you make. Germany.
​
Fera Commerce Inc. - Product reviews and ratings, and works out approximate location from your IP address. Canada / USA.
​
Kudobuzz - Product reviews. USA.
​
Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) - Records technical errors so I can fix things that break. USA.
​
PurpleBear - Runs the WhatsApp chat button. Canada / USA / EU.
​
iKonvert (Tailform) - Powers some of the forms on the site. Canada / USA / EU.
​
Peasisoft, Inc. - Suggests related products at the basket and checkout. USA.
​
Salesdish - Currency converter, which works out your approximate location from your IP address. USA.
​
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
​
I may disclose information if the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
​
5. Information leaving the UK
​
Some of the companies above are based outside the United Kingdom. Where your information goes outside the UK, it is protected by the UK's approved safeguards - either UK adequacy for that country, the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified under it, or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the standard contractual clauses.

You can ask me for a copy of the safeguards that apply to any particular transfer.
​
6. How long I keep it
​
Order and payment records - Six years from the end of the tax year they fall in, because HMRC requires it.
​
Mailing list details - Until you unsubscribe, and then a minimal record so I do not email you again by mistake.
​
Free sample requests, where you did not join the letters - Two years, then deleted.
​
Class enrolment and progress - While you have access to the class, and for two years afterwards.
​
Messages you send me - Three years.
​
Product reviews - Until you ask me to remove them.
​
Website analytics - As set out in section 7.
​
7. Cookies and similar technologies
​
A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. Some are needed to make the site work at all. Others watch how the site is used, or make advertising possible.
​
Strictly necessary - These cannot be switched off. They keep you logged in, remember what is in your basket, keep the site secure, record technical errors, and remember your cookie choice. Set by Wix, Usercentrics and Sentry.
​
Analytics - These tell me which pages people visit and how they got there. Set by Google Tag Manager, Wix's own visitor analytics, my own page-view and link tracking, and Klaviyo's on-site tracking, which additionally links a visit to your email address if you have arrived from one of my emails.
​
Functional - These make parts of the site work the way you would expect: the WhatsApp chat button, site forms, product reviews, product suggestions at checkout, the currency converter, and working out your approximate location from your IP address. Set by PurpleBear, iKonvert, Fera, Kudobuzz, Peasisoft and Salesdish.
​
Advertising - The Meta pixel records that you visited the site so that I can show you an advert on Facebook or Instagram later, and so that I can see whether an advert led to a sale.
​
At the moment these cookies are set when you arrive on the site. I am changing this so that you are asked first. In the meantime you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Meta's advertising cookies in your Facebook or Instagram settings.

8. Your rights
​
Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:
​
give you a copy of the information I hold about you
​
correct anything that is wrong
​
delete your information, where I do not have to keep it for tax or legal reasons
​
stop or limit what I am doing with it
​
send your information to you or another provider in a portable form
​
stop using it for direct marketing - this one is absolute; if you ask, I stop
​
Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it whenever you like. That does not undo anything done before you withdrew it.

To do any of these, email jane@janechipp.art. I will reply within one month. There is no charge.
​
If you are not happy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113. I would rather you told me first so I can put it right, but it is your right either way.

9. Children
​
The site is not intended for children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given me their details, please email me and I will delete them.
​
10. Changes to this policy
​
If I change this policy I will update the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, I will say so in an email to anyone on the list.
