This pack contains scans of my handmade collage pages from a journal documenting the life of a man called Harry Smith, born in 1925. I bought a box of ephemera at an auction and within it found letters, photographs, poems and numerous documents... it was such a rich supply that I decided to pull together a visual story of his life...The Harry Smith Journal.
The collages contain mixtures of letters, postcards, photographs, stamps, and documents such as Harry's birth certificate and Baptism certificate, college letter, envelopes, and butterfly and bird motifs. I have blended them with some hand-stitching, painting, and drawing so that each page is a beautiful and cohesive representation of Harry's life.
In addition to the scans of my collages, I have included scans of some of the ephemera, for you to use as you wish.
The pack contains:
- 10 double-page collage scans
- 1 double-page scan of the journal inside covers
- 8 sepia photographs of Harry, his family, and Rosa
- 4 collage/photographs of Harry \ Rosa that I altered to include fragments of letters and poems written to or by Harry
- a wartime Active Service envelope from Harry to his mother
- a typed letter and envelope from Rosa to Harry
- a college receipt with a stamp from 1954
- handwritten letters from Rosa
- a typed poem by Harry
The pages can be cut out and used whole, or use sections in collages, vintage junk journals, or other art and craft projects.
